Jon, this jig was described in the book, "Turning Pens and Pencils," by Kip Christensen and Rex Burningham. It is used as an aide to your pen assembly press to help align the parts and speed assembly of a multitude of pens. It helps me keep parts aligned while pressing them together. I built a large one as shown but found it a bit large and awkward in my tight work space so I cut it in half and, as I said, it's very helpful for holding pen parts in alignment while pressing them together. [:)] Works for me![;)]

i built almost this exact thing for putting together my pens and it works great. i just took a piece of 1x4, drilled some holes in it, put a few 1/4" bolts in it, attached another 1x4 to the bottom to prevent the bolts from falling out and put a large, flat topped bolt into the drill press to 'press' with and it works great. cost about $1 to make. save your $$ and build one yourself. and then i use the harbor freight aluminum clamp attached to a piece of plywood to press transmissions in (the euro and slimline are the only ones i use this contraption for).
