Pen Box v. 4. An older version is free while one has to pay for the newer one.
Here: My Pen Box A Pen Maker's Database

Do you use it, if so, is it fairly easy to use

Yes I use it. Mainly for my pen kits inventory. More functions available that I don't use at all. Some flaws though.
The "kit tracker" is easy to use.
Older versions are offered as freeware. Maybe it could be interesting to try before purchasing.

Seems like being able to 'track inventory' is over complicating something that should be simple? Am I missing something by just looking in my 'Tupperware' container and counting the kit in there??

Or are you using the program to track something else?

Scott (got over 300 kits laying around) B

What flaws do you find in the Pen Box software?

About 650 kits here and +/- 150 finished pens at this time.
Unfortunately my kits don't fit in a tupperware for they're disseminated around shop and house... I need a tracking inventory software. At least this is working for me.

Mainly the sorting and printing functions of the kit tracker, as far as I'm concerned.
Also, no help file and one has to learn the program by himself.
I had found some more flaws but don't remember exactly for I have no use of more functions apart the kit tracker.
Maybe if one takes more time to investigate and/or parameter the software he will undoubtedly find more features and clear out some misunderstandings that I was personnally confronted with.

Fair enough....but I've seen some really big tuperware containers:biggrin:

How long does it take(on average) to maintain the 'database' on a weekly period? How many hours since you have started 'tracking inventory' have been expended in pursuit of knowing you have 'X' number of slimline kits?

Scott (I have limited amount of hours remaining on Earth....) B

I personally need to know for tax reasons. Knowing your inventory on hand is essential to properly offset cost of good sold and profits when reporting business taxes.

I use pen box just for my own reference. It was good around Christmas time when people were asking if I could make a certain pen. I knew exacly how many I had and how many I had to get..

Why do you need that kind of stock. I order my pens and get the hardware usually within 3 days. I don't keep more than 20 or so kits on hand at any given time. Idle hardware has zero chance of selling? Just my way I guess.

I've been trying out the older version of PenBox but can't see where I can inventory my pen blanks before I use them, am I missing something?
For those using excel, did you write your own from scratch or start with a template (and if so, which one).
