Pen lost by postal service(newest member)

Well I seem to be the newest member. I was in the Aussie swap and just got word that the blanks arrived(same box) with no pen. And unlike most of you guys. I did not insure it. So word to the wise tape the box like you want it to stay closed. Cause of it opens easily someone may like part of your package.


Mine was in a flat rate box by the way.

Did the box say pen on it or office supplies or something like that? A box says pen on it, means there is a pen in there to steal.

Phil, not to add salt to the wound, but I try to pretend im the one handling the package and if it can be easily opened and resealed, that would be the one I would imagine people would go for first. therefore, I try to tape them really well. Now watch, i will be next in line to get my package jacked!

Dang. I hope mine makes it. I sent a packed full padded envelope double enveloped and w/ enough tape to make it waterproof.

I am sorry for your bad experience. I will add this: Many of the packages I receive have damage which is sufficient to allow small items to escape. This is inclusive of items in USPS boxes. Some times things are missing and sometimes I just wonder why they are NOT missing, when I see the hole in the outer packaging. So a word to the wise. Use lots of tape. Once you have done that, put on MORE tape. And then, as an option...use more tape!

I think from now own all of mine will come with a fancy grey wrapper on the outside. After packaging it will receive enough duct tape that the reciever may hate me when it arrives.

Or you could just send it certified mail, where it is signed for at every post office until it is out of the USA. Don't know what happens in Australia.

Sorry to hear that. I'm still waiting on my claim to get out of pending status from USPS from the pen they lost. It's hit or miss these days

It might be opened by customs in the receiving country - some are some are not.

A little while ago I received a small flat rate priority box in the mail inside a sealed plastic bag. It was stamped by one of the post office centers that had sealed it, as "Opened in transit no contents found". The glue on the self sealing flap had not held. The vendor replaced the $7.00 part and I have taped all 3 of the flaps on the boxes ever since. Every small flat rate box I ship I try to pull the flap back open after I have pulled the cover strip and pressed it firmly shut. The amount of times it will pull back apart is substantial. Even the clear shipping tape will help.

I always tape the hell out of whatever I mail out. One thing my PO friend told me is that for international shipping be careful NOT to tape it completely to where it "looks" air tight. She said doing that sends up red flags to customs bc they'll think it has contraband in it. That could lead to them opening your package and who knows that might happen after that.

I just got a PM from my partner in Australia, thanking me for the nice timber blanks and timber display box. He then asks "Was there supposed to be a pen in that nice timber box"? I've been shipping boxes for a few years now, and know how to tape them up REAL good. I've looked around the house, and have not found the pen. I KNOW it was in the box. This is the first time I've had this problem. I'll try it one more time, but how many pens will disappear?

Try Tyvek envelopes. They don't tear and offer more protection than paper. You can also use tamper resistant stranded tape. Cheaper than loosing a pen.
