I would like to make a pen case / display that holds my pens for transport and display. I am looking for something for the bottom of the display. I remember seeing a link for a felt covered bottom that had ridges on it to cradle the pens. I dont know how else I can describe what I am looking for. Any help finding something like this would be appreciated.

If you look at your building materials store, they have a trim molding that is about 4 inches wide, fluted with grooves just the right size for pens. Cut it to any size and cover it with felt and you have it. Worked great for me. If you can make the case, you can surely make this work.

If you have a router table, this is simple:
I took a 3/4" thick X 1-1/4" wide long strip of poplar and routed a groove in the center of the strip using a 3/4" core box bit.
After routing, I cross-cut the strip into pieces of the desired length.
I glued the strips edge to edge, built a frame around them, then flocked the bottom where the pens go.
I used light green flocking and painted the frame dark green.
Here's a pic:

I did exactly what Gary shows. But I added elastic banding in the middle with a hole through each ridge. Worked great, displayed pens in "palettes" of 15 each.
