Simple pen box with a unique "lid". The basket weave lid is a combination of carving and dremel work. The material used is cedar since it carves well without difficulty. The front lid is opened with a simple black map pin.

The pen box is made of solid cherry with a mahogany dome. My attempt was to simulate a "clear" roof like a skylight. Rather than having a complete opening on top, I decided to include aluminum bars to allowing partial viewing of the pen. The bed of the pen box is
nothing more than maple shavings from bowl turning. The lick (brass) keeps the pen case well secured. Hope to garner a few votes my way for this design.

Very interesting. I like the concepts. A little disappointed that more people did not try this out. But it is what it is. Both deserve first place. Call it a tie and divide the bounty up:biggrin:

It does take a bit more time to construct a pen box then it does to make a pen. That is why you need to think far in advance so those that are thinking of this look forward to seeing you at the Bash in Feb. Start thinking now. I know I am.:):)

I had an idea, but I delayed until it was too late. Being limited to a single pen was also a deterrent, unless it is intended as a gift pen in a box. For my desk I would like a box to hold 2 or 3 pens.

Beautiful work !!

I agree with the suggestion to award equal first prizes to both entries. Since there are a total of 3 prizes, each winner also gets a bonus, I would think !!
