Woke up this morning to find my pay pal account wiped out with 7 transactions, the first 2 wiped out the account and left $122 in it the next 5 were declined because of not enought funds in the account. These were transactions using my paypal debit card which I use to purchase merchandise for the Classic Nib. This account usually has a few thousand dollars in it just as a bumper, thank goodness I did not use my bank account as a back-up. Called Pay Pal in Omaha and they cancelled the card while I was on the phone and issued a new card. The one small payment for $201.10 they said was to test the account for balance then they tried $3,196 and it went through, so I'm out almost $3400.00 for the next 7-10 days at least as now the payments are pending and they wait until they are complete before they will start the process of refunding the funds after they run my dispute transactions and this could take up to 45 days, but I was told that this should be done in 7-10 days. I still don't understand that if it hasn't been completed and are pending why complete the transactions and go throught all the disbute crap.

Have they any idea where the money went (in country or out of country)?

My wife woke up yesterday to find out her AMEX card & Itunes account were hacked to the tune of $225. That's alot of albums and software...

Yikes! That sucks!

I once had my card number stolen and used out in California but it was only about $600. No where near $3400!

It's awful when that happens. It happened to my bank account, the bank took care of it and returned my money but it was a hassle. Hope your refunded money goes easily.

I agree,

I dont know why they need to let the funds go through before trying a recovery. If its pending - paypal should be able to contact visa and cancel it.

Did you get notifications of purchases or just happen to wander in and see your depleted balance? IE: wondering if its a glitch on paypals end and if other members should be double checking their balances..

Hope it gets resolved for you quickly!!

They may cancel the charges and wait to reimburse you because they have to gaurd against fraud from faking the charges and then reimbursing you money that was never there. I have had problems where an account canceled my purchase and refunded the money and Paypal held it 2 weeks to make sure it was legit.

Let me add "when it rains it pours"

It isn't a theft until its complete. Then they can file charges if they find them.

When it happened to us, not paypal card but our bank debit card, We had to file a report at the Sheriff's office too.

Too bad to hear that Roy. Good thing you had that block in place for your checking. A LOT of people don't realize if your PayPal account doesn't have enough it will automatically take it out of your checking. Not sure what the default is but I think it is $400. I got mine set to $200 (I think) just went on PayPal to look and couldn't find it. I think you can set it to $1000. or something like that.

I'm sure they will fix it but like you said it will take time and it hurts to be without the $$$$.

Hang in there Roy
Good Luck
