Alright, I know this is not really on topic, but what do you do with all the little plastic baggies? Do they fit in the same category as white Styrofoam peanuts? How about a central location where I can send the baggies to reuse them. They are too good to just trash and fill the landfill. Any ideas, Ed?

P.S. My Bride is very interested in any of these answers.:rolleyes::biggrin:

I actually reuse them for shipping quarter blanks, other pen parts, etc, etc. Sometimes when I make my rifle shell pen kits, I reuse those baggies to put those kits into. At the moment, I have a box that they all go into and when I need some, I go to the box and get what i need.

The bag that the entire kit comes in is usually used as a CA pour pad. We squeeze out an amount of thick CA, use a chop stick and swirl the CA in the blank. We then roll the tube in the CA before sticking it in the blank. The tiny bags that the pieces come in are generally thrown out unless we are making a simi-kit-less pen and the left over parts stay in the bag and go into a parts box. Some also use some of the bags to slide over a finger(s) and apply CA with.

The small parts bags hold $10 <thus called a dime bag>, the CSUSA tube bags hold $50 and a typical kit bag is $80.

just kidding of course...those were the days.:sleepy:

Careful!! I just read this morning the gov. Is wanting to create a database and anyone having said they used drugs would go into the database. They will use the database in issuing gun permits. If you are in the database you would be denied the ability to purchase a firearm through legal channels. It's a knee-jerk reaction following the horrendous act by the gunman in Arizona.

I ensure they go to the landfill.
If someone wants to save the planet, feel free to dig through the trash and get them out. After all, I don't save a dime when I re-cycle anything, someone else makes a profit...one of those 'No-money-in-it-for-me'-why bother do it.

And before you waste your breath trying to try me it's for the children, I really don't care.....

HERE'S A THOUGHT!!! THROW THEM AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But. according to SWMBO, I don't do this, either...,the minute I do, I'll need 10,000 of them.

I give them to my mom. She makes hand made cards and she puts her small punch pieces in them. I keep her well stocked and she passes them out to her craft friends.

I give mine to a rockhound friend. I wish there was a CRV. on plastic oil bottles. One son has an oil change bus., other cuts firewood. I pick them up and drain them. Thats better than paying $6 to $8 a gal. for bar oil

You run 'used' oil through your chainsaw? Doesn't the metal scraps in the used oil eat up your bar/chain?

MotionLotion from Baileys is the only way to go, and it's cheap enough to stock in case quantities! Save your best friend(chainsaw)!!!

You can use the little bags to sell loco weed.
Twenty bucks a bag.
Just thinking out loud. Never touched the stuff myself. Besides, I asked the same question because I hate throwing things away and this is the answer I got.
How about buttons. Sort your buttons, everyone has a pot full of buttons, don't they?

I keep them and find a use for them occasionally. I have kids, so they are used to keep things in. Nice use for game pieces on some of our board games. I also keep different colors of wood dust in them in case I need a filler some time. There is a local bead shop and I've wintered if they would be interested in them, but not likely since most of them say "Woodcraft" or "CSUSA" on them. Good luck. I am some what of a tree hugger, but I don't find these little bags taking up too much space in my head OR in the local landfill. IMHO

Mine seem to migrate somehow to within a few inches of one of the intakes on my DC in some strange sort of brownian lemming death dance. From there it seems to be a short hop to the chip sorter, where they again miraculously migrate to the very bottom of the barrel. That way when I dump out the sawdust, jointer/planer shavings, and lathe droppings in the big wet spot behind my shop, they can all be right on top of the pile and immediately blow all over the yard, necessitating my version of the Rocky Balboa "catch the chicken" training exercise.

CA application, storing things, sawdust storage and when I get too many I do recycle them. Many grocery stores have places where you can recycle plastic shopping bags and so I put them all in a larger plastic bag and recycle them at these locations.

I understand COMPLETELY where you're coming from.

"What do you MEAN I can't recycle it here because I didn't BUY it here???"

That's not recycling, that's marketing!

I am a tree hugger! I hug my blanks, gingerly drill a hole in each, stuff some kind of tube and glue in that hole and lovingly reduce many of them to shavings all over the floor. Yes, I am a tree hugger, just not quiet like some others are.:eek::biggrin::tongue:

I save them all up and give them to coin collectors who use them for those 2,385 "special" coins. Of course they have kids carefully putting each coin by itself in a little bag and zip it closed.

And some of the boys use a few to catch and seal in spiders and bugs and throw 'em in with the coins they'd carefully packed away . . . hoping to see that famous phenomena of "White Hair Rising."

I keep my pens near my heart.. in my shirt pocket....:rolleyes:

I also use them for finger protectors when applying a ca finish.
Now that is a good idea. I may try that. The end of the day is always spent trying to clean the glue off my fingers.

I wrap some painters tape around my finger for protection. I use to use the bags, but the tape stays on my finger better.

I keep a stash of the bags, just because. Good for keeping small things together, like bushings. Many go in the garbage though. You can only keep so many in the shop.
