Our "back yard" is nearly strait up the mountain. The swamp is about 1/4 mile from the house, it runs along the river. My son, Gunther and I have called in wolves and fox on the swamp but it's more of a playground. Some folks up the road a bit have a cross country ski trail on the swamp. I hope to get some of the trees cleared out of the extended trail next week. Really glad you enjoy the pics..........I love showing off Alaska and it's beautiful places!
So is HEAT........stick it together with HEAT WAVE and you have double trouble!!!! I am more than happy to give you guys the warm bits and keep the frozen parts of the planet for myself.
Tracy and I were talking about how much Gunther loves winter last night when it occurred to us.......He has NEVER seen a temp over 80!!!! That was on a visit to Michigan, we had a couple of warm summers here but that was before he was born.
Since there seems to be some interest I'll post a few more pics.....ice candles are a solstice tradition for our gatherings, and they are really easy to make.
And the veiw from the front yard, the swamp is just to the east of this(right). The river is the wide band of snow. "knik" means snow in Inupak, we live on "the snow river"
Rick, I feel so sorry for you, having to observe all that beauty all the time, wild game running over your porch and fish sinking the boat by just jumping in. Yea, I feel so sorry for you. OOPS, my pants jsut caught on fire! Gotta go!
Charles
OK maybe a couple, but clean up can be rather daunting!!!!!!
Gunther is 2 or 3 in this pic, as you can see he REALLY gets into fishing! The smell was well look at the pic, and imagine..............BTW his favorite summer game? Show the nice tourist lady what fish guts are all about!
