Sunday night I was cutting up some scrap wood into blanks on the table saw. On my final pass the cut off about 3/4" square and 4" long was still touching the blade. The blade picked it up and shot it like a dart right into my chest. Felt like i got hit by a hammer, even knocked the wind out of me. Three days later I still have a knot with a 3/4" red square on my chest.

Hope you recover completely, and soon.

Fortunately I was standing just far enough to one side when a 9"x 16" piece of 3/4" plywood was picked up by my table saw. It went flying by me and the corner poked a hole in the OSB wall about 8' behind me.

I kept the piece with the saw tooth tracks across it as a reminder.

They can be incredibly dangerous.

Took one of those myself a couple years back (half in plywood squares), 2 days before heading off on a summer beach vacation. Mighty colorful, brilliant purples, greens, yellows and blues.

Hope you feel better soon.

Jim - The knot will go away in a couple of weeks. I got a gut check a couple months back and it took some time before the knot went away. Just a darn good thing I had some padding above the belt line.

Ouch! That's why I use a bandsaw when cutting blanks. A couple of months ago I got whacked in the chest by a snapped mandrel. I foolishly and carelessly turned on the Shopsmith (2500 RPM) without checking that the mandrel was seated in the live center. I was lucky on that one.

I use my table saw when doing blanks but I put a short piece of wood on the fence. when the cut piece clears the wood on the fence you dont get that pinch, a shot of Poplar to the gut help figure out that handy trick!!!!
