This time of year lot of interest in turning ornaments for gifts, self, or sale. If you have not caught ornament mania this year don't worry think about starting anytime after this Christmas.

All you need is some found wood, raid the firewood pile or buy bundle of firewood. Have been procrastinating for years thinking about turning acrylic blanks into ornaments. Speaking from personal experience I need practice & time to get my proportions right.

You can buy kits that offer eye cap, tube, and decorative tip (finial) or just buy some screw eyes. You can use any species of wood.

Here are some ideas others like to make.

You can find plenty of how to articles & videos online for whatever style ornaments decide to make.

Other considerations need to think about is where & how will display your ornaments. Ornaments can hang from tree, stand, or set a top tables or mantles and bottle stoppers. Size and weight of an ornament will also affect where & how ornaments displayed.

Ornaments with long icicles don't really look fantastic hanging off a tree so buying or making a stand better option. Even with stands took couple years to sell those that I made. Now only turn ball ornaments with short or no finials. I may turn four or five finials to fit a particular ornament.

Might be the same article used to make my first hollowing tools and got started. I made three tool ¼", 3/8", & ½". Drilled a hole on the lathe to depth after completing outside then used my homemade tools to hollow inside.

Hope you will give them a try!
