I've looked at IAP's site numerous times over the years. I've always admired the wits of the long timers and kindness to starters. I'd say, after looking at your membership, I'm about at an intermediate level. To be honest I got disillusioned at some point long ago when acrylic became so popular because I'm a wood lover. When I retired last year I drank the Kool Aid and started turning acrylics for "theme" pens, but now my pendulum is swing back toward woods. Proud to finally be a member.

Greetings from Nebraska and welcome to the IAP community. There are some really cool woods that come from your part of the country. Madrone and Myrtlewood are the ones that come to mind. Once again - Welcome! - Dave

Welcome from snowy NJ. Lot's of turners in your area - check out the AAW site for a local turning club Find a local AAW Chapter

Penturning is becoming more of a thing with the AAW turners, but it is a great place to expand your knowledge of turning and meet some fun people live and in person!

Welcome Laura to IAP posting! The Koolaid is good if it is wood or acrylic, and there is another Koolaid called Metalica - Aluminum, Steel, Brass, Bronze, Silver, Gold and probably more. There have been a few posts over the years from some that use stone/rocks for their medium of choice.

I personally am a fan of wood and segmented wood with aluminum or brass spacers. I do make a few acrylic at times and certain hybrid ones.

If you have time and a camera, please post a few picts.

Adding: Drove from Portland to Bend. Tall pines that stopped and began high desert. Never thought of Oregon having desert.
