Help me out folks. I have a Majestic Jr. that, at the moment, has a blackwood cap. I've blown out 3 more pieces of blackwood trying to get the body made. I also have some pure white holly. How would the pen look with a holly body and blackwood cap. I'm thinking that maybe in the morning, I'll glue up a cap and body out of holly. But what do you think about the black and white thing? I guess there would be no gray area.

I have turned pens with a black cap and a white body and they turn out very nice. You can make another only reverse the colors and sell them as a wedding or anniiversary set...

If you look around I think you will find a few photos here on IAP with some pens done that way. In fact I think one was posted not too long ago. You just need to relax and have a drink while looking for some. Now personal opinion (ain't worth much either :biggrin:)....
Will you be settling with the holly because of your frustration? Will you always wonder why it never worked or what you could have done different? This is a majestic kit and not a $5 cigar. Is it worth the time and effort of another blank or two? Since only you can answer the questions I will leave it to you to find the true answer in your gut. :smile:

I've set on this one for about 1 1/2 years now trying figure out where to go. I know it was my fault, but the blackwood was catchy and splintery. I was thinking of the holly because it is here. I think I'm only trying to salvage the blackwood because I like the look of it so much. The kit is rhodium and black titanium. I'm thinking that you may have said " The answer is in your heart, Grasshopper". If I'm going to think this hard I'm going after a second drink.

I have said this many times here that I think more people should mix and match blanks. There is no law that says you can't and they look great as well. I think you should do it for sure. Here is an example of mixing.

I think I'm going to try the white body tomorrow, and if I don't like it I'll take it apart, and drink a toast to both pieces as they turn to ash on a cold winter evening. And if that don't work, I'll just drink until I get a better idea.

Randy, I've got an Idea! why don't you turn the balckwood close to where you think you are just about to blow it then work the rest of the way with sand paper and shape it to the final shape then you can finish the rest of the way just like as you were to finish any other blanks, what yo got to lose? You have tried other ways, and if it didn't work then set it aside and try it on a good day( a day that you feel real good, it's Sunny and yo are on top your world) I am sure it'll come out well to your surprise.

I don't have anymore blackwood that big. That's kind of why I wondered if I should take a different track. I hate getting my butt kicked by a little ole stick of wood.

Well, this is what I ended up with. My thinker likes it.

Randy;
I'm not sure just want to do here so. This is what I would do. Cut an elongated V in a Blackwood blank, cut a white holly blank into a V to fit the area in the Blackwood blank. Glue them up, drill, tube, turn. Now you have a tuxedo pen that will look gorgeous. The black now represents the tuxedo coat and pants while the white serves as the shirt. Best of luck.

I am not too sure about your back ground. :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I have done several Baron style pens with an Ebony top and deer antler bottom. They sell well, I will continue to make this combination. I tried a Cigar style with white lower barrels and red and blue uppers. These were slow to sell for me.

Turned out great Randy! The nice thing is that spare tubes are cheap so it makes experimenting somewhat affordable depending on the blanks you're using.
