It appears my lathe has made it's last pen...

I think it's toast, or at least when the flames came shooting out of it it was trying to make toast. I do believe I cried a little...

My belt sander/disk sander caught fire. All it was was wireing. An easy fix. Tear it apart and see what happened.

Parts department

It is time to consult the parts diagram and call the manufacturer (assuming your lathe isn't old as dirt and been out of production for too many years. My Craftsman Professional (on the print; not my words) has broken down multiple times. It is always cheaper to repair than to replace, but not a happy event anyway.

I hope you find that your machine isn't too far gone or too expensive. Good luck

It doesn't have to be old.I have a Jet 1014 that I can't find parts for.
Call Jet they said the part I'm looking for its obsolete, how about that.

Mine has been discontinued. Last time it needed a belt it took me a good 2 months to find one. Motor shot flames out of it and all the wiring is burnt up, melted the circuit boards and controls for the variable speed...

Also melted the plastic pulleys for the belt...

Apparently it's not a jeep... More like a pinto..

Take the electric motor to a rewiring shop. ( electric motor repair) they should be able to fix or get a replacement for you..........

Isn't that the one someone said has the same parts and everything as the one at Harbor Freight?

James!

While the satisfaction obtained from repairing can be pretty good, it sounds like this might be a golden opportunity to upgrade. Good luck!

Scott.

next time you are looking for a belt, call the Belt Store in Lafayette, LA... 337 235 9736
or go on line www.beltsforanything.com... they probably will have them, not expensive and usually ship same day or next day... I bought 3 belts for my 1014 + shipping for less than what Jet wanted for one belt without shipping... and it was the same mfgr of the belts.

The original quote was mine and I wouldn't put anything from Harbor Freight in my machine even if it is a Craftsman.

I operate my shop by one rule. It must pay for itself now. So far revenue has fixed my lathe three times just because a good lathe I can afford is a small lathe and the Craftsman I currently own is larger than those. I like having enough space to turn larger items even if there is a delay every couple of months while parts arrive. I currently need to purchase a new capacitor for the motor, but have to wait and patiently bump start in the meantime.

No, that's a bigger one. Also, the beauty of them being the same is that the Jet parts will fit on the HF lathe. I don't think that HF offers much in the way of replacement parts, even if one was willing to go that route.
