Does anybody here use the oneway live center system? If so, do you feel it was worth the extra cost over the cheaper alternatives?

Can't speak to the cheaper ones but I use my Oneway every day. I love all the add ons that come with it.

Yes, I believe it is worth the extra expense. I use mine all the time and it is adaptable for many uses by making threaded wooden tips for it.

I have used other live centers and I switched to the Oneway. I'll never go back. The bearings are better and are sealed to keep dust, etc. out. I like the threaded section because of the attachments I can put on it.
For pens it is a truer live center.
I really like it for bowls and platters. I can attach a chuck to it when reversing and the whatever is being turned will be exactly centered back to the headstock.
They do make a 60 degree point for it for pens.
Worth the money for me.

I have both OneWay and Nova live centers. Both are excellent, and each has applications they excell at.
There is a fair amount of overlap in functionality.
Neither will easily replace a mandrel saver live center.

Will the 60 degree cone hold up to metal on metal for tbc?

Yes for both the OneWay and for the Nova.

It's aluminum and will not be suitable for TBC.

The add on cone advertised for pen turning is aluminum? That makes no sense to me.

Mine are steel and have turned many a pen tbc.
Both OneWay and Nova that I have are steel.
OneWay live centers do come with two aluminum cones, but the penturners tip is solid steel.

Actually, Oneway has a popout 60 degree that is made of steel. It works great for TBC. Pop the sharp point out from the cup center and the 60 degree insert fits in. It is an optional item from Oneway for the live center.

I have this one and it has been very serviceable.

But I have a dedicated 60 degree live center I use for tbc. It is an oversized one that I use with the home made napkin ring mandrel.

The full point (and bull nose) cone that comes with the oneway live center is aluminum. It scores easily when used with metal.
The optional steel insert "pen turning point" will work, but it's not hardened.

I used the aluminum cone for tbc and learned my lesson.
I used the pen turning point. It works, but I found runout to be worse than I was willing to accept.
I now use a dedicated 60 degree live center with a hardened point and I would not use anything else for TBC.
My oneway live center gets used for everything else except pens.
Just my opinion / experience.

You may be describing the same item as I am thinking of. They have what is called a pen turning point
