One parting tool too many - Can I make a scraper ?

I have 3 parting tools, a mini, a midi and a regular size. I don't think I need 3, I probably really only need 2, so I'm thinking I'd like to change my larges one into a diamond-nose scraper....

Can I do that? Will that work?

I know a guy who made a diamond-nose out of a screwdriver and it works just as good as anything...

Several videos I have watched by professional turners all repeat some of the same advice. Namely about grinding your tools to suit your needs: "They are your tools. Do whatever you want with them."
Yep, what you are considering should work.

Good scrapers are thick scrapers. Like Frank said, They're your tools, give it a try.

My largest parting tool is as thick as its round-nosed counterpart... So when I get my new grinder I believe I will try grinding it into a diamond-nose.

I've seen a LOT of files ground down into turning tools. If it works, why not?

Who mentioned files? I know people do it but files are hardened and could shatter causing injury. I choose not to risk it.....
