So, I've made up my mind that I've been doing "basic" stuff on the lathe long enough. It's time to take on bigger challenges. I'll withhold specifics because its part of what I'm trying to do for PITH. But after a lot of research, planning, and prep I hit the shop today super excited.

Everything I touched blew up on me. Lol. Got lots done, but with three projects in mind, I ended up with nothing to show for it but a huge mess and some experience. AND IT WAS AWESOME!!!

I learned a ton and now know better where some of the watch out points are. And heck, if I'd nailed this the first time I tried, they wouldn't be advanced techniques.

I guess what I'm saying is that it was great just to get out there and try something different (safety first, of course).

if you want something you never had before, you have to do something youve never done before. (forgot who said that originally)

A bad day turning is still better than a day where I don't even get out to the shop. And I can't wait for round two tomorrow!

Good to hear I'm not the only one that has those days. I wish I could say I always had your attitude. You also have to admit that when it all comes together it's those days that makes it feel sooo much more worth while.

I wish I could say I always had this attitude, as well. :) the first blowout frustrated a bit, but when I really looked at it more as experimentation the fun came out again. But I'm still looking forward to it coming together. As you said, then it REALLY is good.

Round two today saw more progress so it was a great weekend!

Speaking of blowouts I try to glue the piece back in or fill the hole with dust. Just the other day I saw a nice pen with the voids filled with turquoise. I've seen this before in fact I've done it but my brain doesn't retain information more than a few hours so needless to say it slipped my mind. I guess thats what keeps life interesting.
