No, not Martha... She's still working.
I am shocked to look back and see that I bought this lathe in May of 2007! Good grief, has this really been hidden in my shop that long??!!
Anyway, I bought this wonderful WWII era Craftsman lathe. It's a 9" x 36" with the super rare 15" extension bed. I can tell this is WWII era because for a brief time during the war, Craftsman had to switch to bronze serial number tags to save aluminum for the war effort.
The lathe came with the hand made base which at first look appears to be an old dresser. However, a bit more and you notice that it is a custom built lathe cabinet. The large door on the left folds out and is a lathe tool rack with storage behind it. I did not repair the base as the new owner said he did not mind building a new drawer for it.
Anyway, you only came here to see the photos, so here they are! Tomorrow it's off to a new home!
Not to bad for cherry burl...
