Lillian's 03 Saturn Vue let the magic smoke out if you will last month. Overheat and lost compression in all 6 cylinders. Rebuild or replace was going to cost more than the car was worth so it was time to find a newer car for her. She was out of town for part of the month and we decided to wait until she returned. Much internet searching and I spotted this and saw something she would really enjoy.

When I met her she had a White honda civic with a sunroof. She has always said she loved white cars and sunroofs (only our Jeep Wrangler was better than a sunroof to her).

So the new used car? 08 Saturn Outlook. White (Ivory) and not 1 but 2 sunroofs (the rear one doesn't open). slightly larger than the Vue but has rear air for the pups

No more rentals for a bit at least.

Wow, that is a nice looking vehicle you've got there...!

I like those sort of vehicles and so does my wife, carrying 2 dogs all the time and a tonne of tools/stuff in it all the time, requires some internal space and some good suspension that those vehicles seem to have.

My old Falcon wagon that I own since 2005, is now 23 years old and dying in and out, rust in structural places that worries me. When I had my mechanic to repair/replace the engine head, about 3 years ago, the vehicle was worthing $1,000 and the repair cost $1,500 however, I had replaced a lot of other stuff since I got it, and the $1,500 would buy me something similar that could be in worse condition than mine so, I paid for the repair.

In these last 3 years, I may have spent another $1,000 on it but, all in small chunks, the only way I can afford it so I wonder, how long before it is going to leave me on the side of the road for good...???

There is a big and long steep hill coming up to my town/home, my trailer even small at 6x4 loaded with wood all the time, is killing that "old girl", I wish that was the other way around going up empty and coming down loaded but, most of the wood is at the bottom of the Adelaide Hills so, going up, is a killer...!

I wish I could afford one of those...!:frown:

Best of luck with it...!

Cheers
George

George that was part of the problem, she wouldn't drive mine. 83 Suburban I paid $2k for the truck knowing the engine was really iffy but the body and interior was in better than good shape and the previous owner had spent $2k on fresh brakes and suspension all around. Drove it for two months and the engine gave out, spent another $3k on a brand new Jasper engine (not used, better than manufacturers specs). Since then the only problem I've had is the 30 year old starter finally gave out, $200. I love my old trucks and this one I should get a good 100-200k+ miles out of without much issue now.

She won't drive it.

I just needed something nicer for her.

I found the original window sticker in the glove box. $36k list price. I paid less than half that for it now. Has 66k miles on it, not bad for 6 years. Very clean inside and out, one owner. I think I got a fair deal. Interest is a bit high due to me having the bankruptcy, but I'll refinance through my credit union in a year and get that where it should be.
