I was out of hobbies and I couldn't find on any were, time on may hands, money to spend, it was scary. The I was invited to a been turners meeting. They weren't kidding when they said it was a different kind of hobby, Pen turning was a perfect fit. I got experience hands on, my instructor was actually a pen turner. Now I feel like I'm really going places. How many meeting can change your life.

Hey Dan.......You keep posting and the rest of us will keep nodding our heads.
Been there......fond memories.......Big smiles.
Thanks for making my evening.

Dan,

I can relate. I bought a lathe about 3 years ago specifically for turning pens. I've done a few wine stoppers, and a bunch of tool handles. Seems like spindles are my thing! I turned 2 peppermills for Christmas gifts, and I then decided to get a bowl gouge over the holidays (without handle, so I turn one myself!). so I will try to give bowls a spin.

And then recently I bought more pen kits ... (90 in inventory, ouch!) But there is just something about pens that lure me in. I have ordered a pin chuck from Rick Herrell and am looking forward to trying some closed-end pens this year.

Glad you found your hobby. I've been woodworking for 45+ years, and I cannot figure out why I did not invest in a lathe until recently, relatively speaking. I think turning is maybe the most satisfying of the woodworking things I do now.

It's is a great hobby. The problem right how is to much time on my hands and watching far to many Everest commercials in the last few week there making there way in to my post, I cant help myself.

I really find it fun to make anything that walks into my head...as long as it's round!! Having to pack the shop this week was the sadist part of moving :frown:.
When someone pay $150 for a peppermill...I start break dancing!!:eek:

I'm sure it is Jim. I hope you have space in your new home to have a nice shop so you'll be able to get back to turning. Maybe you try and set up a turning club in the area.

You know Dan...my wife Stacey handles all this stuff...she thrives on it! She made sure what found a place with a 3 car garage just for that purpose. Made contact with a few members in the area and my friends there make pens...could be worth a shot!
