I tried an emerging bowl turning. It has a lot of flaws and for me it wasn't a lot of fun. It's decent for a first attempt. Even though, this is small, I think it's better attempted on a full size lathe or one that is bolted to the floor. Mine Is not bolted to the floor and the fastest I could turn it was 650 rpm. Going any faster than that sent the whole lathe shaking. I had to put wedges under it just to get it to 650. Also sanding all the nooks and crannies wasn't pleasurable either. Others might enjoy this project, it's just not for me. Comments and critiques are always welcome.

I remember watching a demo at my local chapter which was for a rectangular winged bowl - about 2' long. It sounded like an airplane propeller. Many in the audience took back row seats, even with a plexiglass shield.

Very nice job nonetheless.

This saying keeps running through my mind as I read your post: "Just because you CAN do something does not mean you SHOULD do it."

It looks terrifying to me. Very interesting, even pretty, but terrifying.
