The company I work for is in the process of installing the largest solar array project in the State of Indiana. All being done during the winter! Obviously not a lot of panels went down today! About 3" of solid ice to deal with.

I was on the largest roof top solar panel job in our state last year and we finished it up in some heavy snows also. Fortunately we had all the panels down and were working on some feeders and connections out in the field so we were able to get it done on time because there was a bonus for the company if they could get it on line before the end of the year. They made it. The largest means nothing any more because it seems that gets broken every month or two as this has taken this country by storm. The manufactorer of the panels which is right in my home town has just expanded again and has hired more workers. It is good to see a USA born product. The biggest proble we are encountering now is being work is slow everybody and their brother wants a piece and thinks they can do it better and faster. Everyone from laborers, roofers, sheet metal workers have now taken aim on what most would consider electrician work.

They are interesting projects but also very repetitious after doing one. Not for anyone with a bad back or bad knees:smile:

Not to Hijack the thread...but....what type of solar panels are you guys using?? I am thinking about working some solar panels into a grant for the school that I work for.

Can you tell me where I can get good info about the product you guys are installing?

Thanks,

Grub

Grub, these are SunPower Panels. They are about 6,000 panels total. This project didn't start till late fall because a new roof was installed during the summer. It has not been much fun because of the weather. John was your system a SunPower system?

Here is the job done last year. http://www.environmentalleader.com/2009/07/31/fedex-installs-24mw-rooftop-solar-array-largest-in-us/

Another building is in the plans right next to it. Here is the company that is in NJ that has become a huge player in this and here is the job awarded by our pulic service electric company. I have mixed feelings about seeing these things on just about every telephone pole around the state but then again seeing telephone poles is an eyesore anyway. I believe the wave of the future will be all underground systems. http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/27/for-excess-solar-flow-a-veg-o-matic-for-voltage/?src=mv
