Hi, i have a spare full length old craftsman style lathe,the one with the steel tube for the frame.Anyway what i am asking is can i convert that lathe to a Beal buffing setup,,what it has is the #1 morse taper,Beal`s system requires a #2 morse taper. I have a full 1hp 1735 rpm motor for it that is almost new (dayton). I can set that up in a separate dust free area in my basement,well it would be nice to use,it is just collecting dust tucked in a corner of shop. Thanks Carl

Yes, they do exist. They are about 12 in long, the tang portion is #1MT and the socket portion is #2MT. The socket is inline with the spindle but is completely outside (in front of).
 
I think all a beall buffing system is, is just a rod with three buffing pads. You can make your own setup to be any thickness rod and length you want.
 
Maybe you could find a coupling nut to match the spindle nose thread and use a piece of all-thread and make your own shaft for a home made buffing system. Center drill tailstock end of all-thread to run on a live center. Put the drive end into the coupling nut.
I think those old craftsman have a 3/4"-16 thread.
