Old Huanghuali with updated photo

I've been working on my photos and had some time with a semi-professional photographer. Here is one of the results of our session.

Learning about light metering, and all the nuances of photography. Never thought I would have interest in this stuff, but then again I never thought I would be interested in working with a hobby like pens.

Eric....I like the pen and the wood.Very attractive. The photography shows the pen to advantage. However, I think the cloth backdrop is too distracting from the pen. Thanks Darrell Eisner

I agree with Darrell - I really like the pen, and it photographed very well - but my eye is drawn to the grain on the carpet...

If you could do the same photo with a smoother fabric, I think it would be perfect!

I believe the lighting is more even than the last one of your photos that I commented on. You seem to have that balanced out better and the shadow reduced considerably.

The photo on the right is slightly over-exposed though. Notice how it's almost washed out in the lighted area around the top of the cap. Also, I love the closeup on the left. You get a lot of great detail, to the point you can see the texture of the cloth reflected in the center band. Overall, you've made a significant improvement!

Photographs are getting much better. Piggy backing off dave's comments the depth of field is off just enough to be bothersome. This may be a limitation of your camera though.
