Old feeds

I'm wondering if anyone else has used friction feeds from old manufactured pens, (esterbrook, schaeffer etc.) I'm in the process of building my first componentless pen and it's been a true challenge.

I couldn't wait to try it out so I inked it just to see how it writes. I think it's a tad wet, could be from a med nib but wondering if anyone has any other ideas.

Tim we have several NOS feeds and nibs that we use to restore Esterbook FPs. All ink and write well. Most vintage nibs will need to be tweaked. The slit width will need to be adjusted as well as the tines. The only time that a nib is too wet is when it globs. You can usually get a vintage nibs to write anywhere from a dryish line to a thick wet line just from adjusting the slit. This is especially true on a flexible nibs.

Actually the only part I'm using is the feed. Just threw a dayacom nib in, the old was to corroded to use. And maybe I'm just used to the style we normally use so anything out of "our" norm is questionable to us, or at least to me. I'd never written with a FP til I made one so relatively new to me (3 yrs). Thanks for the reply too.

i am trying to get into repairing fountain pens for some of my customers. as i study more and more about fountain pens the more i think i will enjoy this line of the pen world. i have repaired one for my wife, an old ccross and one for a customer and felt good when i made them write again.
