If you're anything like me you find it a PITA to keep up with what size lead is in the Pentel pencils you make. The originals are color coded but that's not always possible, especially if they're made out of wood.
I came across a set of numbered punches that I had in a drawer and it just hit me, these might work on Pentels!
I sat down with the punches and the Pentels and thought about it for awhile and this is what I came up with.

I turned a piece of wood to 3/4" and cut it 2" long. I drilled a letter "R" hole for the punch 1 1/2" deep, turned it around and drilled a letter "F" hole for the eraser cover all the way through to the larger hole. This will keep everything centered.

The punches have 1/8" tall numbers and you can find them at alot of places for around $12-$15.
I found the appropriate transfer punch from my set and put it in my vise with the eraser cover on it.

BAD PHOTO......but you get the idea.
Next I put the punch in the jig and slipped it over the eraser cover....

BANG, BANG, BANG...a few licks with a hammer and voila............

It works pretty slick, I like it anyway!!

That's a neat trick Rick. I like how you kept everything centered. I would have just pounded on it with the punch and then got frustrated when only half the number was on the cover

Thanks for the idea. Do you have any advice about how to avoid getting the eraser covers mixed up?

I think quite some time back somebody was using a small segment built into the pen with a piece of acrylic in the color that matched the number on these pencils.I really like the stamp idea though.
