While turning bird house perches yesterday I was using the Nova Live Center with the point out of the middle of the cup center to align small pieces of ebony an stabalized wood for turning. (used the skew as a carving chisel to knock the corner off) and the Ah Ha
That is a tapered opening that holds a small bushing centered on a mandrel -
Perhaps not a specialized as the mandrel saver, but works pretty well
and perhaps John Goodwin (JohnnyCNC) will make an insert with a better fit
(P.S. -- the Nova came with a 60 degree insert that works just fine for regular use with pen mandrels).
