I have a Nova DVR XP I got a couple years ago and for turning bowls etc it is awesome. I have pretty much shifted over to turning pens and am having a heck of a time getting the tailstock lined up with the head. I can get it close but close isn't good enough. I get too much vibration at the tail stock end when using as mandrel for two piece pens or even TBC on a long piece like the long click - it is giving me fits when trying to get a good fit and finish at the tailstock end. I have only been able to adjust by taking the tailstock off, adjusting, then putting back on. Very hard to get to the bolts to lososen the tails tock.

Does anyone have any good tips for aligning?

Have you tried using the Nova Acruline tool?

For under $20 it would appear to be a good way to co-linearity.

I stuck a bore sighting laser into the collet chuck one day and then into drill chucks mounted in the tailstock. Figured out pretty fast a process to keep best alignment when moving and locking the tailstock.

Nova DVR XP Can be aligned Precisely

The Novs DVR XP tailstock can be precisely aligned with the headstock.
Underneath the tailstock there are two alignment plates held in place by 4 Cap Screws (use a 5mm Allan Key to unfasten). Method is described on P35 of DVR XP Manual. A useful tool to make alignment easy: Nova double ended 2 Morse Taper Acruline Code: 2MTNA from Nova Stockists. One end fits into headtstock spindle, the other in the tailstock quill, for no brainer accurate alignment. Any questions get back to me. Cheers! Brian Nova

Same problem

I have the same issues, Its kept me from attempting center drilling blanks and attempting closed ended kitless projects.
