I thought I'd share a recent experience I had. (a POSITIVE one this time!)
So, it turns out that a family friend is a fan of fountain pens. So last 4th of July I brought my pens when I went home for the holiday. The friend has a big party every 4th, so we were over at his house. He didn't have long to look, but he took a look at my pens and really liked them a lot. The only criticism he had was looking at the stock nibs and basically remarking that they were crap.
Well, later he had an idea to have a promotional event at my mom's (struggling) antique shop. At that would be my pens, as a highlight. So I invested in some nice blanks to make some higher-end fountain pens, and with that I purchased a mix of 10 Heritage nibs.
Last weekend I was back home, and I dropped by his house again to show him the pens with the new nibs. Now he had more time, and was able to actually spend time with the pens and try them out. Interestingly- he posted the Jr Gents, and tried to post the Gent pen I had. So note: even die-hard fountain pen users like to post... But anyways, he had some really nice custom stationary and a bottle of Mont Blanc ink. Using the method I learned on this site, I had him dip the pen to ink it, rather than use a cartidge or conerter to fill it.
Long story short (too late
), he really liked the pens. Not only that, he said that the pen was much nicer to write with than his Parker that he currently uses. I'm not a fountain pen expert, and am trying to learn to use one myself. But to hear such compliments from someone who uses a fountain pen regularly, it was very encouraging.
