Here are a couple of pics of my new workbench that I built over the weekend.
It isn't the prettiest bench I have seen, but it will hold just about anything I can think to put on it and it is VERY stable.
Building this became a requirement after my wife and I signed up to do a couple of large craft fairs in September. My existing bench was 48x24 and fitting a drill press, lathe, and work room for two people was simply impossible.
This bench is made from standard 2x4s and two sheets of MDF laminated together giving me work surface that is 60x32. This should allow us to have the necessary space for two people plus equipment.
One of the best features of the bench is that is can be (dis)assembled and transported easily. The top is held in place by four pegs and two screws and can be removed easily. The the top and bottom stringers can be removed from the leg assemblies. This allows it to break down and lay nearly flat.
Total cost of the build was around $145 and it took me about 5 hours to assemble.
