Hi all. My name Bill Wilcox and I hale from the western part of Wisconsin on the beautiful St. Croix River. I have just acquired a Grizzly mini lathe and would love to take up pen turning and other projects. I also am involve in straight razors restoration and scale making. I am hoping to work with the lathe to make some shaving brushes. I really think this new found hobby will grab me pretty good.

Welcome Bill, Join in the maddness of a fun hobby/work. Enjoy it! If you have questions, suggestions, observations or hints, post them - there is a great community here!

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. While confusing to new turners, it sure helps abbreviate a lot of repetitive typing.
