New washer and dryer

Well after 30 years the clothes dryer bit the dust. So my wife persuaded me to get a new washer and dryer.

The washer didn't make it thru the first load of wash! <imagine lots of cursing here>

I'm pretty sure to be on a first name basis with the repair man.

What happened to the first one? THe wringer handle break?:biggrin::biggrin: The line must have just plumb rotted away on the dryer.

He used one of the landing points of the drier to make pens.

I understand the hastle of getting them in and out, but couldn't you just exchange them?

I've had my <3 year old dryer intimately apart more than 5 times...should NOT have to do that on something that cost that much...especially when it's JUST out of the warranty period.

Remember - Stated warranty on any NEW product = exactly how long they expect the appliance to last MINUS one month.

What I'm amazed at is that what was metal in a previous washer/dryer life is now plastic. Not just any old plastic, we all know the drill, but some kind of recycled piece of brittle crap that will never live as long as our expectations. Sign of the times.

The problem might be that they do --- washers have always given me fits. One dryer bought in 1969 and passed to the buyer when I sold my house in 1999 - during that same time frame average of one washer every 4 to 5 years 7 all tolled.

I am not too sure about that about that - I've looked at my current washer and most of what was metal on my old ones and plastic on this one are parts that never broke on the old ones. The plastic gears in this washer seem to be holding up as well or better than the metal ones in previous washers. The transmissions were always the part that gave me the most trouble - broke most often, were the most expensive to fix and the least reliable after repair. Motors were second but a nearby shop that could repair/rewind them made then a fairly easy fix.
