Took the plunge. Bought the Rikon from Woodcraft. Sold one of my Jet-1014 lathes. Not sure if I want to sell the other one. I usually bring one of them to 2-day shows or demonstrations.
Also, how come there's no "Rikon" label on it?

Please let us know your thoughts on it.... especially the speed ranges.. I'm thinking of making the same purchase next week and that seems to be the only item that may concern me. Many thx in advance....!

Well... I too took the plunge and purchased the Rikon yesterday... couldn't miss out on the extra $100 off and for $300 less than the Jet I was eyeing... it was all in!

First impressions - its one big sucker! The box weighs in at 125 lbs and the lathe itself is pretty darn big for a midi.... makes the previous model looks like a toy.

Will be awhile before I unbox the thing to check it out - have to get my shop setup and that could take a bit. All in all - it looks like a real winner!

Pesto.. ok. so you bought it. and it is STILL IN THE BOX?? I could NEVER do that, especially with something as fun as that. Must be the kid in me that wants to play with my toys as soon as I get them. :) :)

I know .. I know... but I have no where to set up currently as I'm in the process of figuring out where to turn... thinking garage for ease of access, cleaning and space (basement would need lighting, electrical and lots of work to setup properly).. need to clear some space and get a portable heater setup. I envy all you folks with complete workshops!!!!!

Well I envy them too! lol.. I am currently using my 12 x 16 tuff shed that has band saw, drill press, table saw, shopsmith, grizzly lathe, jet midi lathe, oh and did I mention it has two walls with shelving for storage. and two bicycles... and .... and... yes.. not ideal for sure... not heated... but you know.. is way better than nothing. :)

Ready?
So far, disappointed, but waiting
WHAT???
Bought the Rikon. Variable speed wasn't working. Brought it back to the purchase place. Waited a couple of days for another one. Picked that one up, set it up.
Variable speed working great.
BUT WAIT...
As the VS was working, the read-out is not.
GRRRRR.
Waiting for another one. Maybe the extra 300 is worth it.
