My Great Kijiji find was finally delivered today!

picked up a rockwell 12x36 lathe with a custom made 3 foot extension and a nifty router jig to make perfect cylinders and tapers... the guy i bought it from used it to make some pillars in his house, and they look pretty awesome, so its certainly a neat addition to the lathe. i have a feeling i know where i am going to be spending the weekend

How does that work?

I'm curious. My brother asked me if I could make 100 rolling pins. A rig like that could save me a lot of time and effort. With my current skills and gear I doubt I could do 25 let alone 100.

Would it be possible to diy that sort of thing?

the router jig is 100% diy... i will snap some more detailed pictures tomorrow morning (or maybe even tonight if i dont start playing right away...)

but basically its a box that sits over the white square tube rails you see in the picture, and two L shaped shelves that fit inside the box to act as a base for the router to sit on... it has a set of indexed holes for fixed sizes, and slots to allow taper cuts... throw in an up cutting spiral bit in the router (pulls the router down into the work so you dont have to try to fight to keep it down) and set the lathe nice and slow, work from tailstock to head stock and you should be good to go
