Hello all.

I recently purchased a Rikon 70-100 mini lathe(feb 27th, to be exact) with a bunch of other sundry items needed to get started with the hobby. Among the things I bought, I got a couple of pen kits to get started. Today(technically yesterday) I made my first pen, which while it isn't fabulous, I'm pleased with, considering I've only been turning for 4 days. I've posted a thread with a pic in the penturning forum for all to see(and hopefully critque).

Cheers!

Welcome!

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.

Thanks all for the warm welcome :D So far, I'm having fun. Even though I've only got one pen to show off, I've already got asked to make two more.

@jocat - so far, I have no major complaints about it. My only issue so far is that I cant seem to tighten the tailstock down as much as I'd like, and can move it when tightening the live center into a piece of stock(perhaps too tight?)

I have noticed that also-but if I move the handle up instead of down it seems to "lock" it in place
