Hey guys.
I'm from Colorado. Been turning pens for about a year now. Make my own blanks, but still so much to learn.

Welcome Lee, from Sydney Australia.
Congratulations on the Excellent Blanks.
Nicely Finished Pens, though I notice that the Transition to the Hardware on some of the Pens, has created a significant ridge.
That ridge will distract from craftsmanship of the Pen as displayed, and will very noticeable to the users fingers.
This is quite a common occurrence with new turners, and requires Confidence and Experience to Turn and Finish the Blank to the diameter of the Bushes, or the dimension of the fitting hardware.
I recommend that you practice on some "firewood", turning it down to the required diameter so that you will be confident when turning a Special Blank.
You might like to retain some of your early pens, and refer to them for comparison and to Gauge your Progress.
Brian.

Thanks Brian.
You are right. I seem to run into this problem, mainly on the Cigar style pens.

When I turn the blank, I turn it down to the bushings, then sand to 600grit.
After 2 layers of thin CA, I add maybe 7 layers of medium CA, the finally, 2 more of thin, before beginning sanding to 12k.

Am I maybe putting too many layers of CA on the blank? Should I turn the blank down a little further? What is the trick here?

:-)

Welcome from Texas, Lee.

Nice pens & great blanks! Thanks for sharing. Be sure to post these or some other pens in the Show Off Your Pens Forum. We have a new member drawing each month from both the Introductions & the Show Off Your Pens forums, so you'll want to be sure you get into both drawings.
