Hello all. I thought a small introduction would be a simple way to break the ice. I have been in construction pretty well since I could sweep a floor, I love refinishing, restoring and refurbishing furniture, and recently starting building farm house type furniture by request. The tables sell like hot cakes right now. I decided to buy a lathe for bench legs, but quickly discovered I didn't know how to use one. HA! So I turned to pen turning for skill building. A side effect of this is all I want to do is turn pens now. I guess there are worse habits I could have. I also learned very quickly that purchasing kits and such online was far cheaper than buying at Rockler and woodcraft. Cheaper by almost half. Wow. I will still use them in a pinch, but craftsuppliesusa sent me my order so fast that I hadn't even checked the email they sent with my tracking number before they arrived.

Anyway, found this board a few days ago and have been trolling through old posts and reading up on tips and tricks. I have seen some gorgeous pens here too! I look forward to participating in contests and on the boards. See ya around!

Welcome from Louisiana.... Hope you okay with all that rain a few weeks ago...There are some great people and lots...lots ...did I say LOTS of great pens and information to. There are some sellers here to for all your future pen( addiction ) ..turning here as well.

You didn't say what part of TX you live, but if you are near to San Antonio, come visit our IAP Alamo Penturners Chapter. We meet the first Thur of each month at Woodcraft at 6:30pm.

There are several woodturning clubs in Dallas, Ft Worth, and Denton. I am a member of the Ft Worth club and drive over from the Abilene area when I can and when the program interests me. There used to be a Pen Turning club that met at Woodworld TX in Dallas (Near Texas Instruments), but I haven't seen them advertised here. If you're an AAW member, you can go to their website and find local clubs. If you're not, let me know and I'll get the info on the DFW area clubs for you.

My house is full of that kind of furniture that I built before I started turning. Welcome aboard.
