FedEx FINALLY delivered my new laser engraver today. I love it! I made my first test burn on a tongue depressor. Still a lot more learning and practice before I start engraving pens, but I'm encouraged.

Still playing around, learning its capabilities. I tried four power levels, 75%, 50%, 25%, and 12%.

Play with the burn time also. It's a dance between the two. Too high a power can burn the material but a shorter burn time can help with that. Acrylics are a different technique altogether. I usually fill an acrylic burn with some type of contrasting material since it won't burn a black engraving so you need to make it a deep burn as you are melting more than burning.

My first acrylic body. Turned out better than I expected. I'm encouraged.

When I get some time I'll post the techniques for all of the stuff I've used to fill engravings in both wood and acrylic. It's a long list. I've tried a lot of stuff, some that work, others that have failed miserably. Rub n Buff needs a long time to dry and you need many layers to fill the void. Then your favorite CA technique over the blank to seal it in.

I look forward to it.

What engraver did you get and where from if you don't mind me asking and where do I get information on it Thanks

I just got 1 of those 3018Pros. It has a 2500mW laser with it. I have been messing around with the rotary engraver part for 2 days now. What are you using for your software? I am using Inkscape to make an image or picture to resize it and turn it into a SVG file, then sending that to jscut to create the G-file, then sending it to Candle to run the machine. Please tell me there is a more efficient way...
