I used a new source of mica powder in the casting of these shark vertebra and the colors were not what I was shooting for. Then I spent a couple days trying to get a nice finish and finally resorted to multiple coats of heavy CA glue. I was readily to pitch the dang blanks but decided to wet sand and polish them just to see if I could salvage them. Much to my surprise, the pen actually turned out pretty nice. Phew...I would have hated spending all that time and have nothing to show for it! Life is good!

My inexperience with these new colors was really the problem. The mica powders from TKBTrading.com worked just fine and come in a variety of colors. They're available in 6 gram bags for $1.50 which was cheap enough for me to be able to buy a bunch of colors to try out and 6 grams will make a lot of pens.
 
It is a beautiful pen. Well done Steve. I still like the colors.

EDIT: I will again credit your photography in addition to your turning/casting skills. Excellent photos. Many pens are produced without the benefit of excellent pictures. Your photos I admire! (Some day I'll get to your suggestions!).

Thank you all for the nice comments and thanks Jeff for the honor. The post letting me know I was on the front page couldn't have come at a better time. When I checked it out I noticed that the Summer Extravaganza was underway and closing fast. Twelve hours later I just posted the last of my 3 entries. Considering the last minute effort, I'm happy with the three pens. Anyways, thanks again!

EDIT: Thanks for the comments about my photos Mark! I almost enjoy the photograping and editing as much as I like turning.
