Hello,

I have been a keen observer of the forums for nearly 3 months. I decided its high time I become a member and make my status passive to active. This forum has taught be many ideas and techniques that would have taken many years through trial and tribulations to learn on my own. For this, I am extremely appreciative. The experience, techniques, thoughts, and fixes that the members here have injected into the atmosphere here at IAP is phenomonal.

As a new penturner, I should have started on the slimlines, but those were a bit tough for me to do. I seemed to have a ton of blown blanks or splits. Splits were caused to my lack of knowledge about hot woods in a cold shop. ^^ I turn mainly the Cigar/Big Ben pens, as well as, the Majestic. Fountain pens peak my interest as far as pens go. The very basic pen by design back thousands of years ago.

I enjoy my daily reading fo the threads here on the forum and having the opportunity to read about the trials that come with different woods and platings. It is an awesome time we live in when we can see what problems someone else has come across and their ideas on how to avoid them.

Jeremy

Welcome, I don't live that far from you, between Benton City and West Richland along the Yakima River. Hope you enjoy it here. Have you checked out the PNPTA .org site also? Great group and most are members here also.

Welcome Jeremy.
Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
