That's Portsmouth, VA for those who want to know. My name is Michael and I'm new to most forms of woodwork, though in a prior life I have done some machining. Here's a picture of my first pen.

Hey Michael, I am in Hampton. We had a meeting last sunday for us "local guys" to talk shop and share ideas. We will make a post of the next meeting on here when it comes around. Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth on information on here so sit back and expect to read alot. Oh yeah, Nice pen too.... :)

and like Brian said we had a penturners get together last weekend and had a great time.

The member who started the group get together is also from P-town..!

Welcome fellow PTowner! We just had a meeting in PTown last Sunday with about 6 other penturners. You will have to get involved with the next one!

Mike, Welcome to the forum. As mentioned before the "local" meeting was very interesting. Even though I am fairly new to pen turning also, I did not feel out of place amoungst the experts.

Nice first pen. Be sure to keep it for comparison purposes many months down the road. You will find that your skills definitely inprove over a span of time.
