Hi,

The name is Ray and I was advised by some friends on the UKAP (United Kingdom Association of Penturners) to join this forum to further increase my knowledge of penturning and indeed other forms of wood turning. I have recently retired from nearly 50 years in the construction industry and was looking for somethingto keep me occupied as well as keeping 6 barmaids in employment :). I have come back to wood turning after a 25 year absence and am absolutely amazed at the changes in equipment, tools etc which appears to have been driven by you guys in the states. Thank you for that! I hope to become an active member in due course.

Best wishes from England!!

Greetings form this side of the pond in SW Florida. Welcome, but you may have to take a job alongside those 6 barmaids to support this habit.

Welcome, Ray - from sunny southern California.

You probably don't need the first link. But I'm including it anyway.
Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

This link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
