Hi everyone. Thanks for the welcome. Thanks to jgrden for recommending this site. One more thanks...for the support I will get and some friendships made here.
Pen making came out of nowhere. I went into PSI looking a stand for a 48" pool cue repair lathe. A week later a close buddy offered his 1/4hp Carba-Tec to me(that I ended buying from him). I enjoy the look of beautifully finished wood and plastic.
I am an orthodontic dental tech that worked with acrylic for about 48 years. I used a Baldor lathe with rotary files and 3" rags wheels to pumice smooth and high shine. Dust and dirt keep my heart beating.
JGRDEN made few pens for me car and pool cue related. His work gave me an appreciation for pen makers. Pens are personal. Pens are custom crafted. They are more than Just a Pen.
I made 2 pens this week. On the first one I asked myself...what the heck am doing. Maybe I should quit now. The second got better quickly but needs refining. I will post it and look forward to review, comments and anything to guide me along. Aside from getting a technique I need to adapt a style. I have no idea where this is going. If I make 1 or 100 I'm going to have fun pen making. Lately I'm seeing wood turning in head.....

Maple is my 1st
Coco #2

The Maple is gigantic and the taper at the bushings were slightly oversized.
The Coco was from 2 different blanks. I'm happy with these being my debut.
I feel that I have the mechanics.... I need to develop a personal template. Thanks for any remarks/comments. Frank

sorry about the picture size...had a problem uploading larger pics
