Hi, I am very new to this. I have had a shopsmith that I got from a relative in my garage for a couple of years and decided to try it out. I realized that woodturning was fun and that I would try to make some pens, which led me here. Still waiting on some equipment to arrive to actually make the first one. I have read a lot on this forum and have learned a bunch already and look forward to learning more. I also have quite a bit of photography experience so maybe I can even help once in a while. By the way, the work on here is incredible!

Welcome Ray. Here is hoping you get your package soon to begin pen making. Lots of fun for sure!

Below are links to three threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens. It may help some.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

The last is a link of Acronyms that we use regularly to keep from typing so much!
