While I was away, Lillian got another piece of malware on her computer called Smart Defragmenter.

So when I got up today I went about fixing it. Cleared the Temp files, and ran malwarebytes. This got rid of the problem, but now I can't access any internet connections.

The modem/router are fine as I'm using them to post this. The router is showing the computer connection and the computer is showing the LAN connection. So everything should be working.

I've restarted the comp. I've disabled and reset the LAN connection. I've tried repairing the LAN connection. But still no go. When I was in Safe Mode it worked, I'll try going back in on that setting in a minute and see if it still works.

What am I missing. (use simple words, I have a 140+ IQ but when it comes to computers I'm a dunce).

you may be able to restore to a earlier time before the problem.
I know a lot of people don't like it, but I use Microsoft Security Essentials, to keep my puter safe.

Check your internet settings in IE tools/internet options/connections/lan settings to see if a proxy server has been set. There should not be a check in "use proxy"

Run malwarebytes a second time.

Good luck, I've got a similar problem called HDD Defragmenter and another called Quick Defragmenter. They are particularly malicious. I'm in the middle of the move, but I'm going to wipe my hard drive and start over as soon as I'm settled in my new house. So far, these virus's have made it impossible to access my regedit or my system32 files in order to delete them.

usually when you get these malicious software/viruses and they install a program they set up a proxy so they can connect to your pc.If this happens and you notice you cannot connect to the internet go to control panel/internet options/connections/lan settings and uncheck proxy box

Try malwarebytes before you reformat. Download it on a different system and load it on the infected system from a thumb drive. It is about the best for removing these fake utilities. It may save you a lot of work. I run it about once a month on my own systems, and I run spybot S&D. Be sure to check the proxy settings after you run malwarebytes. Get it for free at malwarebytes.org.

Rob try combofix.org also I used to run only malwarebytes but found it did not get everything the way combofix does. I f you have any questions pm me and I will send you my phone number. I use this a lot at clients sites easy money.
