See how oftern you can beat the ETA given by your GPS, without getting a ticket. I am going to try on my trip from Sacramento, CA to Ridgecrest CA, Tuesday about 370 miles,6 hours 22 mins.
If I don't make any stops I always beat my Tom Tom estimate. But it does change from time to time during the trip and the later ones start getting pretty close.I have two GPS units, a Garmin and one in our car. I usually use the Garmin in my truck - when I use it - but since I don't use it as much as my car, I often put the Garmin in the car. The Garmin is more accurate in timing than the built-in on the our 2010 car, but I still beat it by 3 to 5 minutes on trips of 100 miles and by 10 to 15 minutes or more on 200 mile trips. This is by the original estimate shortly after starting out. The Garmin updates the time according to the speed every 10 to 15 minutes or so. The built-in does not and usually way over-estimates the amount of time.
I usually exceed the speed limit by a maximum of two to three mph on the highway and NEVER over in a town or city. I am not in a hurry anymore!
