I did one of them, but did not solder. I didn't want the silver color besides the copper. I twisted the copper wire around the tube for almost the entire length. This way, the inner bands would be tight to the tube. I used medium CA to fix the copper to the tube, then turned the ends down to the tube far enough in from the ends that I had a square edge. Then I glued some Walnut on the ends of the tubes and turned it down and put it together. I finished it with French Polish. At the time, someone asked me if I thought the finish would hold up on the copper. It DIDN'T, but the customer that bought it liked the patina.
Here is a picture of the pen. It took a little while to sell. Not everyone wants a heavy pen. this one was heavy.
