I purchased 6 Manhattan pens from Rockler just after the first of this year. I just got around to turning them and in all six, there is a problem with the transmission. It either won't fit completely into the barrel of the pen (top is a hair too big to go in the upper part of the cap) or the transmission will not turn smoothly or slips when turning to extend the tip. Does anyone know where I can get replacement transmissions or how to fix these? These pens are made with laser cut blanks and are already sold. I was told to use what ever style kit I wanted as long as it was chrome or chrome and gun metal.

Mannie I just looked at Rockler's site and those look like Sierras / Diplomats / Wall Street II / etc. I didn't look at the chart in the library yet to see if the specs for the Manhattan are listed, but Rockler's site says the Manhattan takes a 27/64 drill bit, which is what the other pens mentioned take. Could be the same pen with yet another different name.

Rocker has been having kits made in mainland China. They used to carry Berea kits, but have been replacing them with their own stuff for about a year.

Mannie, could you put the blanks on Sierras instead?

I have tried replacing the transmission with a transmission from an Elegant Beauty Sierra and a Diplomat but neither fit the threads of the Manhattan.
All the other specs match the above mentioned pens.

Are they finial or bbl twist?
They are barrel twist.

I'm sorry to tell you, Mannie, but if those don't fit, you are going to have a tough time finding one that will!! I am quite confident all the sierras are the same, including the Elegant Beauty. I am noticing more and more "threading differences" between one vendor and the next. NOT a good thing!!!

I went ahead and ordered replacement kits (Elegant Sierras) from my favorite vendor.:biggrin::biggrin:
I'm in the middle of putting up just under 300 feet of wood fence this week. In a few days when I get through, I'll give the local Rockler store where I got the kits a call and see if they will replace the kits.
