Hi everyone,
We're leaving in about 10 minutes for the hospital. My wife has a 6:30 surgery this morning for a hip replacement. She's been hobbling around for several years in a lot of pain and has now reached the age to where medicare will cover most of the surgery.
I know these surgeries are almost like an oil change, but she's diabetic and has an atril-fibulation, so it's a little scary for both of us.

Chuck, best wishes for her to have successful surgery and recovery. My wife had her hip replacement in November and can't believe how much better she feels.

my brother-in-law is recovering from hip surgery and i am recovering from open heart surgery. tell her not to worry about anything, it's a walk in the park! prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery to her. she'll be up in no time.......bear

Chuck,

I am thinking of you and your wife. I hope all goes well. When I had my knee replaced, the surgeon told me that the hip replacment is the number one replacement surgery in patient satisfaction.

Don't worry, she'll be up and kicking your butt in no time!

having worked in orthro surgery I can tell you from my experiences that what was avant garde surgery at one time is now mundane workaday technique.

Its great when they take out the shiny new hip parts out of the box though and hand them to the surgeon kinda like getting a new batch of high end pen kits and blanks but not quite as thrilling. its all similar really drill a few holes pop the parts in a do a good finish and hey presto a new hip or pen. Nothing to worry about really concentrate on all the good stuff youlle be able to do in a short while.

My prayers to both of you. Friends say their lives were much improved after hip replacement, even those with added medical problems like your wife.

Chuck,
Good luck to her, and you. I just had my knee replaced and was very anxious about it. I'm now 10 weeks post op and things are much better than I would have thought. Help from the folks on this site allowed me the courage to go through with it and see that the fear was all for not. I'm sure she will be OK. My prayers are with you.

Be aware that everything is as it should be. Visualize your wife being pain-free and able to do things like she did before. I'll send affirmative thoughts your way today.

I have talked to several people who say they never felt better after having this procedure done, although you already know there is a period of "adjustment" anytime they do anything that invasive. I need a new knee and will draw courage from what your wife is going through.

Both of you, be well.

Dale

You guys will be dancing in no time Chuck.

Cheers!

Gary

Only if I develop some rhythm.. may need a left foot replacement.. seem to have two of them..LOL

Thanks guys for all the well wishes... they worked.. the surgery was a complete success today.. she was in her room and resting comfortably when I left the hospital... would have stayed, but had to come home and let the dog out...

Dianne was awake and complaining that she was hungry... she had her last mail about 8 pm last night and it was just a snack. The nurses promised her something as I left.. liquid only this meal, but full breakfast tomorrow.

Glad to hear that all went well. I work with hip replacement patients and if they do their physical therapy and occupational therapy as taught they recover quickly and their lives are so improved.
