Hi everyone. I need some advice on whats the best way to get a job as a cabinet maker. I have thought about making something like a wall clock to show off some of my skills but i'm not sure that it would be enough. Is there something else I could make that would help my chances?

Any advice?

Thanks

Are there any cabinetry shops in your area? Any hiring? To me, that might be the way to go. Starting your own business is a HUGE investment in time and money.

There are a lot of cabinetry shops in my area. not sure if their hiring though. Hope so. I was thinking of using the clock or something else as a sort of resume to help me get a job at one of them.

I guess if it were me, I would want to see your cabinetry skills. you could build a cabinet style tool chest or something more related to the job you were looking for?

If you have never worked professionally as a cabinet maker then you will be better off trying to hire out as a helper or working with a finish carpenter that does cabinet work as well.

Another good way to start is to hire on with a school or hospital for documented experience.
