I've got a Sheng Tsai 14 inch 1/2 HP 92 inch blade band saw that is missing the umph it once had. Sheng Tsai is a tool maker in Taiwan that makes saws and other tools which are currently sold in the US under several brand names. This saw is at least 25 years old and Sheng Tsai no longer uses their own brand name in the US.

Last month I could use it to cut a 6 inch thick chunk of firewood up into blanks. Today I can't cut a blank crossway withoug it bogging down. It could be a blade dull, but I suspect is it something more. It feels like the motor has just lost power. I bought this a couple years ago at an estate auction, I have no idea if this is the original motor. I haven't done a bit of preventive maintence to the saw in the two years I've been abusing it.

What do you think? Buy a new blade and see if that helps? Do the motors go out slowly? The only electric motors I've destroyed in the past just seized up and quit, they didn's lose power like this.

I guess it would be cheaper and easier to try a new blade to see if that fixes the problem, rather than trying a new motor first.
